At this point in my life it’s fairly easy for me to avoid most advertisements. After 27 years of seeing thin, white girls plastered everywhere, my eyes are excellent at knowing that none of what people are selling is meant for me so ignoring it’s fine. I’m not a thin, white girl nor will I ever be and my days of wishing for that ended long ago.
Bare Escentuals knows what’s up and is incredibly smart with this new campaign. They get it. I’m not Indian but Melanie caught my attention. She’s gorgeous and different than everything I see consistently. And Bare Escentuals gets that I don’t need to look like Melanie to want that eye shadow. ‘Cause I don’t look like her and I do want it. Bare Escentuals gets that it’s 2011 and putting an Indian woman on your homepage isn’t going to scare white ladies away.
